Meet the Makers: Hannah Reid of Bowl and Arrow
Getting to know Hannah Reid
Hannah Reid and Leisha White make up the team behind Bowl and Arrow, which started in 2015 due to a passion for making smoothie bowls and whole-foods accessible in NZ.
Bowl and Arrow is a popular spot at Orākei Bay Village where you can come to get a nutritious grab and go option that’s healthy and premium, using high-quality ingredients.
We spoke to Hannah to get the scoop on the business and her personal favourites around OBV.
So tell us, where’s your favourite place to shop at Orākei Bay Village?
It’s got to be A&C Homestore, for sure. I love their range of homeware, clothing, and great gifts. It’s important to me that they have a focus on ethically sourced and beautiful quality pieces. I’ve been known to swing by on my lunch break.
Tell us about your ideal date night at OBV?
You can’t go wrong with beers and yummy finger food outside at Brothers Beer. My husband and I like to follow dinner with a comedy movie at the Silky Otter. They’ve got the best popcorn and a frozen coke in my opinion. I love the luxury feel, intimate environment, the high-end beautiful fit out and of course, the staff are always excellent.
How did Bowl and Arrow start?
Bowl and Arrow really came to life when Leisha and I moved into OBV in 2015. We wanted to bring smoothie bowls to Auckland, because there was nothing like it at the time. We had been living overseas and got inspiration from Hawaii, Brazil and Bali. We saw that OBV was coming to the area and thought the positioning works really well for the store due to the schools, activity with beautiful walks, and close to the beach. The area is affluent, and with it being a luxury product, we knew this would be something people living in that area would enjoy.
What’s your favourite menu item at Bowl and Arrow?
Definitely the Brazilian acai bowl with coconut yoghurt and a good drizzle of peanut butter.
Because you like to keep healthy and look after yourself, what are some of your favourite self-care practices?
Going for walks in the area is my favourite - there’s lots of good trails which I often walk with my son Knox and pug Mowgli. I also love going to F45 at the Village to get a good sweat on whenever I get the chance. Eating nutritious smoothie bowls…obviously, and I can’t go past a good coffee either.
Your packaging is compostable, tell us a little bit more about that?
We work with Innocent Packaging as everything is commercially compostable. OBV and the other tenants are conscious of ensuring the packaging is composted properly. All of the other dine spots use compostable packaging and we all work together to ensure not only our customers get their food and drink in the most sustainable way, but we also do our part by making it easy for them to compost.
Apart from the tasty smoothies, bowls and more at Bowl and Arrow, what’s your favourite menu item at OBV?
The Korean Fried Chicken Bowl from Bird on a Wire. Need I say more? It’s simply delicious!
